Marcus Duckworth

My life has been marked with continued blessings fromGod, and His grace has underpinned the paths He has brought

me though.  In my youth I was raised in a Christian home, but

it was a very legalistic faith.  My head was filled with a lot of knowledge from the Bible, but my heart was being starved.  I

was content with maintaining the status quo until after college

but was blessed with the conviction of the Holy Spirit and received a better understanding of Paul’s letter to the church at Ephesus.  This change in doctrinal understanding led me down a path of growing in my faith and in what I truly believed; which is still impacting me today.  After I had received my undergrad degree in Music Education, I was teaching in a Christian school outside of Cincinnati when I felt called to seek a deeper understanding of the Word.  I went on to receive a Masters Degree in Bible and Theological Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary.  This degree program was built for those who teach small groups and hold lay positions in church, not a pastoral degree.

My wife and I met in high school and were married the fall after my graduation as she graduated the year before me.  We have 4 children, two adult children that live near Cincinnati and Maggie and Lillie.  We moved to New Jersey just over 4 years ago and have been at MBC since the Spring of 2024.  From our first Sunday at MBC, we have felt something special about this place and the people here.  We have been received with love and kindness and our girls are growing in their friendships and understanding of the Lord.  God has greatly blessed us and shown us repeatedly that MBC is where He wants us and we are glad to call you our church family and for this to be our home.

In my time here I have been a part of the worship and tech team, and because of my past experiences at our previous churches I was welcomed to be on the stage renovation committee.  This spring I was blessed with the opportunity to lead a life group through a study on 2 Samuel.  It is my desire to further serve my church family in the capacity of Elder.  I feel that God has blessed me with the necessary giftings and humbleness of heart to take on these heavy responsibilities.
